Enter Marks is where you record the marks of the children you teach, for the exams the office has created. You can only enter marks for the class and subject assigned to you.

Enter the marks

  1. Click Enter Marks in the menu. At the top right, check that the academic year is the current one.

  2. Under Class & Subject, choose the class and subject (for example "Standard 1 — Mathematics"). Only the ones assigned to you are listed.

  3. Under Exam, choose the exam. Only exams that include this class are listed.

Enter Marks with a class, a subject and an exam chosen

  4. A row appears for every child in the class. Type the mark in the box under the exam's heading (for example EXAM / 100 means the mark is out of 100). If the exam has several components, such as coursework and the paper, there is a box for each.

  5. Choose the Status for each child:

Status Use it when
Marked The child sat the paper and has a mark.
Absent The child did not sit the paper. No mark is counted, and the child is not given a zero.
Exempt The child does not take this exam. It is left out of the totals.
  1. Click Save Marks at the bottom. You see "Marks saved". You can save part-way through and come back to finish, so nothing is lost.

A mark cannot be higher than the maximum for the exam, and cannot be negative. Type decimals with a point, for example 72.5.

Enter marks from a file

For a big class, type the marks in a spreadsheet first:

  1. Choose the class, subject and exam.
  2. Click Download template. You get a CSV file with your class list and empty mark columns.
  3. Fill in the marks in a spreadsheet program and save the file as CSV.
  4. Click Import from CSV and choose the file. You see "Marks filled in for … student(s)", and any rows that could not be used are listed.
  5. Check the marks on the page, then click Save Marks.

When you cannot change marks

  • "This exam is locked": the exam is completed or its results are published, so marks cannot be changed. Ask a school administrator to set the exam back to Active.
  • "This academic year is read-only": you are looking at a past year. Switch to the current year at the top.
  • "This class has no grading scheme configured yet": the office has not set up how marks are graded for the class. Ask them.

What happens next

The office and the exams officer follow progress on the Marks Progress page, and the dashboard's Marks entered card shows your percentage. When every mark is in, the exam is completed, report cards are generated, and the class teacher writes comments (see Report card comments).
